142 grams, or just one gram short of the max (before it would round up to 5.1oz, which is over the 5.0 limit).

It’s vintage Lone Ranger themed (wife and son dreamed it up, I painted and added the garish shiny flame and stripe decals). I would love to see this livery on a real LeMans car.

Bonus: one wheel is slightly raised, which is actually legal in our pack. Unintentional happy mistake to reduce rolling resistance. And allegedly a flat black nose helps gain a tiny bit with the electronic eye at the finish, but that’s just superstition...

Race isn’t until next Saturday, but we’re all done! I’ll probably toss some clearcoat on there for an extra gram or two. Then on race day, if we’re too heavy on their scales, we can just drill tiny holes in the tail until we get there.

Angle the other front wheel very slightly to the left. It’s faster to slide against the center rail than it is to bounce back and forth.

Sweet looking car. My son is helping out at a derby this morning. We helped set up last night so the cubbies can race in the A.M., and a brownie troop will race this afternoon. He said he may bail after the cub scouts are done, as being in a room full of screaming girls would drive him up the wall. The last derby race we did, he had a tiger striped car, with the center section cut out. That did pretty well, if I remember right. Our troop is going to do CO2 powered rocket cars next month. That should be interesting. Hope your son’s car wins a few races.

can you still use graphite to “lube” up the axles these days?

Yep, basically any dry lube is ok.

Nice work. Getting the tires inset is a tour-de-force. When my son was doing pinewood a few years back, we worked hard to add material to the side of the car to get the Camaro Bumblebee look he wanted.

Thanks — yeah, these can eat up a a lot of time if you let them.

We ended up with the third fastest car after four runs (out of 10 cars), but my son didn’t get the podium because the races were done on a head-to-head points system, so he ended up in a tie for 5th. A little shady, but can’t change it now...he was a really good sport about it, which is refreshing at this age.
